The falsetto voiced Campbell started his career in the 60s with harmony groups (The Uniques) and (Eternals). By early 70s he had gone solo and started working with producer Bunny ( striker) Lee producing some great music along the way including this Album the title track Ropin.

This superb north west london band seemed to have mainstream success in their grasp when they signed for R.C.A in the late 70s producing the Lovers favourite Breezin in 78, but its probably the great work they did on Venture label that their short career should be remembered for. This album is a real collectors piece for any reggae fan.

The man with the sweet tenor voice, has been around since late 50s first with the (Jiving Juniors). But made his name as a solo singer/producer usually rerecording old soul hits since around 1962. Still a favourite with the older lovers crowd.

There's a great story of how media mogul Richard Branson went to Kingston Jamaica in the mid 70s with a briefcase full of money to sign the reggae acts of the day to his own Virgin label one of them being this excellent roots harmony trio. Although they had left Virgin by this time their debut Virgin album ( TrenchTown MixUp) is still a must for every reggae fan.

Lead members Prince Lincoln Thompson and Cedric Myton (formerly with the Congos) never quite achieved the success they deserved, with this excellent ( cross over) track. Too ahead of its time I guess.

The legendary Wailers Bass player not only produced but played every instrument on this superb solo album, displaying his musical talents to the maximum, backed up with the sweet vocals of Sonia Higgs and Sena.

Born Winston Anthony Morris in 1955 and began his career in the late 60s, along with Sugar Minott and Derrick Howard in the ' African Brothers ' before going solo in the mid 70s with the album ' Tony Tuff Meets Errol Scorcher ' and releases on his own Wiston label. In 1980 he collaborated with Vivian ' yabby u ' Jackson resulting in this superb album ' Tony Tuff ' with the Gladiators Clinton Perron and Albert Griffiths providing the guitar work, even Michael Prophet joins on backing vocals. showing what a close knit community the reggae world was.

Johnny Osbourne

Johnny Osbourne

Born Errol Osbourne 1948 started as lead singer with the ' Wildcats ' in 1967 but wasn't very productive, in 1969 after completing his debut album ' Come Back Darling '. He emigrated to Canada where he sang with various Soul/Reggae groups, until he joined Ishan People and recorded two albums with them before breaking up in 1979 and returned to Jamaica where he joined the Studio One label and success followed. In 1980 he teamed up with Jammy to make ' Folly Ranking ' album , after the hit single of the same name the previous year.
The success of all these recordings along with Dancehall favourites like ' Mr Walker ', 'Trenchtown School ' and the rootsy ' Jahoviah ' has made him a much sought after vocalist in the Reggae World.

Pat Kelly

Started his career in the rocksteady era soon after returning from a year studying electronics in America when he replaced Slim Smith in the (Techniques) with tunes like (You dont care, My Own girl) and ( Love is not a gamble). Before going solo in 1968 and working with Bunny (Stryer) Lee resulting in the big hit of 1969 with (How Long will it take). Also other hits followed working with Lee (Scratch) Perry and Phil Pratt talk about love being one of them. With over 20 albums to his credit this falsetto voiced marvel is a reggae legend.

Freddie McGregor

Born 27th june 1956 in Clarendon Jamaica.
The still very young Freddie joined Ernest Wilson and Peter Austin in the ' Clarendonians ' under the tutor of Coxsone's Studio One label, but his solo career from the mid 70s to present starting with the outstanding Rasta influenced album ' Bobby Babylon '. Although ' Lovers Rock J A Style ' shows the softer side to his lyrical skills mixed with unforgettable Roots classics ' Chant It Down ' and ' The Overseer '.
